AI photo app checklist
Eight questions to ask before you upload a selfie to any AI photo app — for teens and for the parents who want to help. With how Aybuke answers each one.
Quick answer
Before you upload a selfie, check eight things: does the app ask before uploading, does it use your photos to train AI, how long does it keep them, can it work on your device, what does it block, does it label AI images, is the pricing clear (no weekly traps), and can you delete your data in the app? Read the privacy policy for the details.
This checklist is general information, not legal advice. It works for any app; we've added how Aybuke handles each point so you can compare.
1. Does it ask before uploading?
Look for: a clear consent screen before your first photo goes to the cloud, naming who processes it, with a real “not now” option.
Aybuke: asks before any photo or prompt leaves your device. Say “Not now” and the on-device tools keep working; change your mind anytime in Settings › Privacy.
2. Are your photos used to train AI?
Look for: a plain statement in the privacy policy — not just “to improve our services”.
Aybuke: your photos, prompts and results are never used to train AI models, sold or used for ads.
3. How long are photos kept?
Look for: specific retention periods, not “as long as necessary”.
Aybuke: uploads aren't stored; results are deleted from its servers as soon as your device has them, within an hour at most; job records are deleted after 30 days. Your gallery stays on your device.
4. Can it work on your device?
Look for: simple edits that don't need the cloud at all.
Aybuke: retro effects, Retro Cam, video edits and captions, background removal, Cut out, Hide faces, Best shot, Crop, Adjust, Text & Stickers and collages all run on your device, free.
5. What does it block?
Look for: filters against sexual content and humiliating edits, rules about editing other people, and an easy way to report.
Aybuke: filters in all 12 app languages are designed to block sexual, revealing, humiliating and body- or face-reshaping requests; results are screened automatically; and Report this image is one tap away. No filter is perfect, so reporting matters.
6. Are AI images labelled?
Look for: metadata that marks images as AI-made, so they can't easily pass as real photos.
Aybuke: every exported AI image carries an invisible “made with AI” label (IPTC metadata), and you can add a visible AI-edited label.
7. Is the pricing clear?
Look for: the real billed price shown clearly, no tiny-print weekly trials and a reminder before a trial ends.
Aybuke: no weekly plans, the billed price shown clearly, a reminder at least a day before a free trial ends (if notifications are on), automatic refunds for failed edits and credit packs that never expire.
8. Can you delete everything?
Look for: account and data deletion inside the app, not just by email.
Aybuke: Settings › Delete my data & account removes your account and server records and resets the app on your device. No account is created until your first cloud edit or purchase.
For parents
- Talk about which photos are okay to share — and why friends' photos need their permission.
- Use Family Sharing and Ask to Buy so purchases come to you first.
- Check the app's age rating and its own age rules; Aybuke is for ages 13 and up, under-13s get on-device tools only, and 13- to 15-year-olds are asked to read the cloud AI consent with a parent or guardian.
- Read the privacy policy together. Aybuke's is at aybuke.org/legal/en/privacy-policy.
