Blur faces in photos before you post

Not everyone in your photo wants to be online. Aybuke's Hide faces lets you blur, pixelate or cover other people's faces in a few taps, right on your device, for free.

Hide faces is Aybuke's free tool for blurring or covering faces in a photo. It finds the faces for you, you decide who stays visible, and nothing leaves your device.

How to blur faces in a photo

  1. Open Hide faces

In the Edit tab, tap Hide faces and choose a photo. Already editing? Tap Hide in the tool bar.

  2. Check the faces

Aybuke outlines the faces it finds, and every face but the biggest one, usually yours, starts hidden. Tap a face to hide or show it.

  3. Cover any it missed

Faces in profile, behind sunglasses or partly covered by a hand can be missed. Tap that spot on the photo and Aybuke covers it too.

  4. Pick a cover

Choose Blur, Pixelate, Heart, Star or Smiley. Changed your mind? Reset shows every face again.

  5. Apply and share

Tap Apply, then save your photo or share it.

Three ways to hide faces

  • In the editor. The Hide faces tool works on any photo you're editing, from a group selfie to a crowded concert shot.
  • From the kindness reminder. When you open a photo with two or more people, Aybuke shows a gentle note: “Friends in this photo? Ask them before you edit them.” Choose Only edit me, Hide their faces or They're OK with it. Hide their faces opens the tool with every face but the biggest, usually yours, already selected.
  • When you share. Sharing a creation from My Works or Create with two or more faces? Turn on Hide other faces on the Share screen. It keeps the biggest face, blurs the others in every share format, and lets you tap a face to blur or show it.

Why it's worth it

A group selfie, a concert, a busy café: the people in the background didn't choose to be in your post. Some friends would rather not be online at all, and younger brothers and sisters are often too young to decide. Hiding their faces lets you share your moment and still respect theirs.

Hiding a face doesn't replace asking. If a photo is mostly about someone else, check with them before you edit or post it, the way you'd want them to check with you. Bestie looks like Twinning or Bracelet Club are made for photos with friends, so ask everyone in the picture first.

Strong on purpose

There's no strength slider. Blur and Pixelate are always strong, because a light blur can sometimes be undone. Hearts, stars and smileys are solid shapes you can't see through, and every cover reaches past the face to take in the hairline, ears and chin.

Private by design

Faces are found with Apple's Vision framework on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. Aybuke only looks for where faces are: it doesn't recognize or identify anyone, never rates anyone's looks, and forgets the face outlines as soon as you leave the tool. Nothing is uploaded or stored, and Hide faces never uses credits. Read more about how Aybuke looks after you and your friends on our safety page.

More free tools, same privacy. Cut out a subject with the background remover, shoot a strip in Retro Booth or turn 2–9 photos into a photo dump with the collage maker.

FAQ

Hiding faces, answered

Is Hide faces free?

Yes. It's free on every plan, uses no credits, adds no watermark and runs on your device. See pricing for what does use credits.

How do I blur someone's face in a photo on iPhone?

Open the photo in Aybuke's editor and tap Hide. Every face but the biggest starts hidden; tap any face to change that, pick Blur and tap Apply. Pixelate, Heart, Star and Smiley work the same way.

What if Aybuke misses a face?

Faces in profile, behind sunglasses or behind a hand can be missed, so always check every face. Tap the spot on the photo and Aybuke covers it too.

Does Aybuke recognize who is in my photo?

No. It only finds where faces are, on your device. It never identifies anyone, and the face outlines are forgotten when you leave the tool.

Can I hide faces when I share a creation?

Yes. When you share a creation from My Works or Create that shows two or more faces, turn on Hide other faces. It keeps the biggest face and blurs the others.
